Job summary

City of Gainesville, TX is seeking an entry-level Equipment Operator to operate and maintain a range of street maintenance machinery. This role supports construction, repair, and maintenance tasks under close supervision as a training class in the Equipment Operator series.

Two years of construction-related work and a valid driver’s license are required; the city may require CDL within six months. The position emphasizes safety, manual dexterity, and teamwork in a high-noise outdoor environment.

Qualifications

• Two years construction related work experience.
• Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license.
• Must have ability to obtain Class A or B CDL within six (6) months of request when requested by supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain and perform minor repairs on a variety of machinery and equipment.
• Participate in street repairs; prepare holes in street surfaces for repair; apply patching material to fill hole.
• Assist in laying bricks and using the tar pot to tack streets; build fences as assigned.
• Trim and remove foliage obstructing traffic signs or signals; cut out weeds along cracks in the streets; mow creek area.
• Participate in mixing, pouring and finishing concrete.
• Clear storm drains of refuse and debris.
• Haul asphalt, sand and gravel to work site.
• Clean and maintain order of work areas.
• Repair tire flats in shop area.
• Maintain service and repair records on division machinery and equipment.
• May assist with refuse collection; may operate the collection vehicle and place refuse in vehicle compactor.
