Job summary

Yakima County is seeking an exceptional entry level Deputy Sheriff with the Yakima County Sheriff's Department to join the Civil Service team. The position offers a defined monthly pay range and overtime eligibility, with responsibilities that include protecting life and property, enforcing laws, and directing traffic.

Applicants must be certified by the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission, meet specific WA state requirements, and be prepared for rigorous testing and background

Qualifications

• Certified by the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission as a qualified law enforcement officer, but with less than two years of police experience.
• If you live outside Washington State, you must be certified as a law enforcement officer and meet the WA CJTC WAC requirements.
• Candidates that qualify must score a minimum of 75% on the oral examination.
• Veteran’s Preference points may apply (5% or 10% depending on eligibility).
• All candidates are subject to physical agility/performance tests, background investigation, polygraph, psychological and physical examinations.

Responsibilities

• Under supervision of a commanding officer, protect life and property and enforce laws and ordinances.
• Preserve peace and direct traffic; may perform hazardous tasks under stress.
• Work weekends, holidays and rotating shifts.
