Job summary

Yakima County is forming a register of eligible candidates for the position of Exceptional Entry Level Deputy Sheriff with the Yakima County Sheriff's Department.

Position will be open until filled; applications reviewed monthly. The role includes health care, retirement, paid vacation/holidays/sick leave, and requires CJTC certification with potential veteran’s preference considerations.

Qualifications

• Certified by the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission as a qualified law enforcement officer.
• Must score a minimum of 75% on the oral examination.
• Candidates eligible for veteran’s preference receive 5 or 10 percent based on eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Protect life and property, suppress crime, enforce laws and ordinances, preserve peace, and direct traffic.
• Work may require hazardous tasks under emergency and arduous conditions with physical and mental stress.
• Weekend, holidays and rotating shifts are required.
