Job summary

Calista Brice LLC in Alaska is seeking an Able Seaman to join our cargo vessel crew. This entry-level deckhand position supports the deck department with watch standing and routine duties under licensed crew guidance.

You will maintain and operate deck equipment, assist with mooring and towing, and perform routine maintenance while observing safety policies and regulations.

The role requires flexibility, the ability to work long trips at sea, and readiness to learn from senior engineers and mates.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• One (1) year of Able Seaman or deckhand experience preferred.
• Current MMC with AB endorsement preferred.
• Basic Safety and Firefighting training preferred.
• Current TWIC card preferred.
• Must pass Coast Guard physical exam for merchant mariners.
• Previous Alaska water navigation experience preferred.
• Valid state driver’s license preferred.
• Ability to pass drug, driving, and background screenings.

Responsibilities

• Assist with loading, lashing, unlashing and discharge of cargo.
• Clean the tug and barges.
• Assist with handling of fuel and freight.
• Act as lookout and maintain watch on deck and in the engine room.
• Assist the Chief Engineer when required.
• Perform routine deck maintenance and upkeep of equipment and areas.
• Operate deck machinery (windlass, winches) during mooring/unmooring.
• Follow safety and company policies and comply with regulations.
