Job summary

S&ME is seeking an entry-level Construction Materials Engineer in Charlotte, NC. Under the guidance of a Licensed Engineer, you will manage field investigations, log soil samples, perform calculations, and support proposals and reports.

This role emphasizes hands-on testing of soil, concrete, and asphalt to ensure project specs are met. Growth opportunities include mentorship, training, and leadership paths within a 100% employee-owned company.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering is required.
• EIT certification or on track to obtain it within the time frame.
• 0-2 years of experience in construction materials testing/inspections.
• Willingness to obtain at least one industry certification within 6 months.
• Basic math and clear English communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Test materials (soil, concrete, asphalt) and oversee inspections.
• Analyze plans and specs to ensure alignment with project goals.
• Record field activities and test results using Metafield or similar systems.
• Prepare reports and proposals for smaller projects.
• Communicate with management, contractors, and clients daily.
