Job summary

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle is hiring an entry‑level Shared Resources Specialist I to support clinical investigators by handling and processing clinical research specimens in accordance with SOPs, while maintaining strict chain of custody and recording data.

This role involves operating lab instrumentation, preparing charts and summaries, assisting with equipment maintenance, and helping develop training materials and SOPs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in any field of education.
• Associate Degree and 1+ year of experience; Or
• GED/ High School Diploma and 3+ years of experience.
• Demonstrated ability to learn and adapt to new protocols and techniques;
• Ability to learn and operate all specimen processing equipment in accordance with biosafety standards.
• Basic understanding of GxP (GLP/GCP/GCLP or GMP).
• Excellent communication skills and organizational skills;
• Ability to work in a collaborative team-oriented environment;
• Experience with MS Office suite of applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, One Drive, etc);
• Capable of accurate record keeping and data entry.

Responsibilities

• Research Support: performs bench work and processes clinical research specimens for fractionation and preservation.
• Research development: establish and maintain relationships with faculty and external users to identify scientific needs.
• Equipment Oversight: operate and maintain basic equipment and coordinate maintenance; assist in equipment needs assessment.
• Training and Education: assist in developing SOPs, training materials, and specimen handling guidelines; may supervise staff.
• Administrative tasks: document laboratory activities and compile data; perform basic billing.
• Regulatory and Compliance: provide regulatory and compliance support for this shared resource.
