Job summary

Auto-Owners Insurance is seeking a motivated claims trainee to join our team. This entry-level role handles the life-cycle of a claim under close supervision, including investigation, evaluation, and resolution.

The position involves investigating, evaluating, and settling claims, studying policies to build product knowledge, and developing specialized skills in loss adjustment and estimation. A valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain required licenses are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or direct equivalent experience in property/casualty claims handling.
• Ability to organize data, multi-task, and make decisions independently.
• Above-average written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to write reports and compose correspondence.
• Ability to resolve complex issues.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and data security.
• Effective interpersonal skills with a diverse group of individuals.
• Ability to handle mathematical problems accurately, including geometry and financial calculations.
• Valid driver’s license and a driving record consistent with the Company’s underwriting guidelines for coverage.

Responsibilities

• Investigate, evaluate, and settle entry-level insurance claims.
• Study insurance policies, endorsements, and forms to develop foundational knowledge of Company insurance products.
• Learn and comply with Company claim-handling procedures.
• Develop entry-level claim negotiation and settlement skills.
• Build skills to effectively serve the needs of agents, insureds, and others.
• Meet and communicate with claimants, legal counsel, and third parties.
• Develop specialized skills, including estimating and use of designated computer-based programs for loss adjustment.
