Job summary

Auto-Owners Insurance is seeking a motivated claims trainee to join our team. This entry-level role handles the lifecycle of claims under close supervision, including investigation, evaluation, and settlement, with training through the company’s claims program.

After initial in-person training, the position offers a merit-based work-from-home program, with the possibility to work remotely up to three days per week.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or direct equivalent experience in property/casualty claims handling.
• Ability to organize data, multi-task and make decisions independently.
• Above average communication skills (written and verbal).
• Ability to write reports and compose correspondence; resolve complex issues.
• Maintain confidentiality and data security.
• Ability to work with diverse individuals.
• Ability to handle math problems relevant to claims processing.
• Valid driver license and driving record meeting underwriting guidelines.
• Ongoing education to build product knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Investigate, evaluate, and settle entry-level insurance claims.
• Study policies and endorsements to develop foundational product knowledge.
• Learn and comply with claim handling procedures.
• Develop entry-level claim negotiation and settlement skills.
• Serve agents, insureds, and others to ensure timely resolutions.
• Coordinate with claimants, legal counsel, and third parties.
• Develop skills in estimating and use of computer-based programs for loss adjustment.
• Pursue required adjuster licenses within timetable.
