Job summary

Auto-Owners Insurance is seeking a motivated claims trainee to join our team, providing entry-level claims handling under close supervision through the life-cycle of a claim. After initial in-person training, there is merit-based potential for work-from-home flexibility.

The role involves investigating, evaluating, and settling claims, studying policies, and developing foundational knowledge of our products. Training and development will be provided through the company’s claims program.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or direct equivalent experience with property/casualty claims handling.
• Ability to organize data, multi-task and make decisions independently.
• Above average communication skills (written and verbal).
• Ability to write reports and compose correspondence.
• Ability to resolve complex issues.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and data security.
• Ability to effectively deal with a diverse group of individuals.
• Ability to understand financial documents and math-related tasks.
• Must have or obtain an adjuster license if required by statute.
• Must drive a vehicle with valid license and a good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Investigate, evaluate, and settle entry-level insurance claims.
• Study insurance policies, endorsements, and forms to build foundational knowledge.
• Learn and comply with Company claim handling procedures.
• Develop entry-level claim negotiation and settlement skills.
• Build skills to serve agents, insureds, and others effectively.
• Meet and communicate with claimants, counsel, and third parties.
• Develop skills in estimating and use of designated computer programs for loss adjustment.
• Study and obtain required adjuster licenses within timelines.
