Job summary

WV Department of Human Services seeks an entry-level Caseworker to support the Bureau for Child Support Enforcement. Under supervision, you will learn to manage cases through location, development, and notices to non-custodial parents, while studying relevant laws and agency policies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Substitution: paralegal or legal secretarial training may substitute for two years of required training.
• Full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in a legal setting with legal research, reading and interpreting laws, preparing legal documents and assisting with case files under supervision.
• Experience in debt collections, credit investigations, criminal investigations, law enforcement, accounting, or auditing.
• As an Economic Service Worker or Family Support Specialist, or any combination thereof, may substitute for training at a rate of one year per thirty semester hours.
• Special Requirement: may require a valid driver’s license and vehicle for continuous use.

Responsibilities

• Perform entry-level Child Support Enforcement work under close supervision and participate in training.
• Process cases through location, case development, and initial notice to non-custodial parents regarding obligations.
• Assist in the enforcement of child support and research applicable laws and policies.
• Prepare case files for BCSE Attorney and respond to customer service inquiries, including routine correspondence.
• Maintain confidentiality of information and monitor case progress with supervisory review.
