Job summary

General Motors is seeking a student engineer to join the Vehicle Software and Electronics Engineering organization. You will help design, validate, and launch electrical controllers, displays, connectivity, and other electro-mechanical systems for both EVs and ICE vehicles.

You will collaborate with software, hardware, validation, and supplier teams to develop robust ECUs and vehicle hardware, applying GD&T and design-for-manufacturability while supporting test plans and documentation.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Graduating between December 2026 and June 2027.
  • Able to work full time, 40 hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design, development, integration, and validation of hardware, including schematics, PCB assemblies, enclosures, and vehicle systems.
  • Develop mechanical components and interfaces such as castings, moldings, stampings, seals, mounts, connectors, and fasteners.
  • Create engineering deliverables, including wiring diagrams, schematics, PCB layouts, bills of materials, 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, test procedures, and validation documentation.
  • Apply design calculations, GD&T, tolerance analysis, and design-for-manufacturability principles.
  • Help integrate harnesses, cables, PCB assemblies, connectors, and enclosures into vehicle and electro-mechanical architectures.
  • Support hardware release, component and semiconductor selection, requirements traceability, and validation tracking.
