The Assistant Production Lead - Carpenter will contribute to the success of the Entertainment Department by building or refurbishing sets, scenic décor, or other themed scenic elements, as well as assisting with the installation and strike of scenic elements. This position also supports the organization and management of entertainment venues, storage facilities, and the scene shop, along with implementing safety standards and practices for equipment. Additionally, the role involves participating in daily entertainment operations while providing excellent customer service to employees and guests.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Additional duties may be assigned. Management retains the discretion to change or add to the duties of this position at any time.
- Partner with Manager, Supervisor, Leads, and producers to ensure all seasonal production aspects are acceptable and functional at each entertainment venue.
- Construct, install, and strike all scenic pieces and décor according to specifications provided by Supervisor and/or Lead.
- Assist with the design, build, or acquisition of seasonal props for shows.
- Ensure all performers, technicians, ushers, stage managers, and staff working in a production capacity are trained on safety requirements.
- Maintain a safe work environment, including proper use of PPE, hazard-free workplace, and proper operational procedures for tools, equipment, and chemicals.
- Partner with Production Lead to implement and maintain inventory and organizational control systems for storage facilities and the scene shop used by the Entertainment Department.
- Assist in maintaining all park facilities used by the Entertainment Department.
- Support management or producers when working with contracted shows to meet their needs.
- Assist with seasonal installations and strikes, leading production team members.
- Serve as Lead Technician or 600 (MOD) during all Entertainment Seasons as needed.
- Act as a liaison and support for departmental employees, ensuring their concerns are addressed, working conditions are satisfactory, and performance meets departmental and company standards.
- Participate in and contribute to the development and orchestration of annual entertainment programming.
- Attend all Producer Walk-Throughs, Invitational Dress Rehearsals, and Department Trainings as assigned.
- Attend all department production meetings as needed.
- Assist in sourcing and acquiring equipment and supplies for build outs, rehearsals, install, and strike as assigned.
- Provide creative input on entertainment products as assigned.
- Manage product and associated budgets as assigned.
- Assist with seasonal auditions as needed.
- Conduct research related to show, product, or company as assigned.
- Provide administrative support as needed.
- Oversee and/or lead projects as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities

- Experience in operating theatrical scene shop equipment safely.
- Training or experience in operating park vehicles such as ATVs, forklifts, or boom lifts.
- Strong problem-solving skills, creativity, and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and protocols in theme parks or entertainment venues.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Vectorworks, Sketchup, or other design programs.

Education and Experience
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in theater or theme park scenic carpentry.
- Experience with safe operation of hand and powered tools.
Physical Demands
The physical requirements include standing, walking, handling, reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking, hearing, lifting up to 50 pounds, and specific vision capabilities.
Work Environment
The work environment involves outdoor conditions, extreme temperatures, wet/humid conditions, and moderate noise levels.
