Job summary

Zipline is seeking a Software Engineer Intern for the Enterprise Systems team in our South San Francisco office. You will own an operational nervous system that powers manufacturing, supply chain, and field deployment, collaborating with hardware and operations partners to design high-availability services.

In this full-time in-person internship, you will define APIs, data models, and service boundaries, emphasizing observability, metrics, and robust runbooks.

Qualifications

• Second-year undergraduate required for the internship in computer science or related field.
• Masters/PhD candidates eligible for this internship.
• Strong product-minded engineering approach and ability to balance user needs with technical solutions.
• Demonstrated systems perspective and ability to deliver reliable software in a hardware-integrated environment.
• Proficiency with modern tech stack including Python, Go, PostgreSQL, React, Kafka, gRPC, AWS, Grafana and Honeycomb.

Responsibilities

• Own the operational nervous system powering manufacturing, supply chain, inventory traceability, and field deployment.
• Define APIs, data models and service boundaries with a focus on observability, metrics, SLAs and runbooks.
• Bridge software with hardware tooling ensuring deterministic behavior during intermittent connectivity.
• Maintain high-availability services through on-call rotations and incident postmortems.
• Prototype workflows with shop-floor teams to drive adoption of new operational tools.
• Mentor peers and improve CI/CD and automated testing practices.
