Job summary

Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO) is seeking a Senior Director of Enterprise IT Operations in Washington, DC. You will own the core network, hybrid cloud on Azure, and Microsoft 365, lead a small team, and drive security, DR, and service desk operations for BIO staff, events, and members.

The role blends strategic direction with hands-on management, requiring a track record in enterprise IT, vendor governance, and budget oversight.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent experience required.
• Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, ITIL, or Azure Administrator or Architect preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive IT experience, including five or more years leading enterprise IT operations or infrastructure teams.
• Deep, hands-on Azure and Microsoft 365 administration at an enterprise level.
• Proven network and security ownership across firewalls, wireless, VPN, and endpoint.
• Demonstrated success implementing IT service management practices (ITIL or equivalent), including service levels, change management, and incident management.
• Experience building or maturing a cybersecurity and incident-response program, with working knowledge of disaster recovery and business continuity.
• A track record of managing managed service providers and vendors to measurable outcomes.
• Experience owning an IT operations budget, with examples of cost optimization.
• Experience in an association, nonprofit, or membership organization preferred.
• Experience supporting large-scale events or conferences, including registration, AV, and on-site show technology, preferred.

Responsibilities

• Own network routing, firewalls, wireless, and the Azure and Microsoft 365 environment, including identity and access management and endpoint management.
• Maintain published availability and performance targets for core systems, with monitoring, alerting, and capacity planning that catch issues before users do.
• Own disaster recovery and business continuity planning, including documented runbooks and annual testing.
• Run day-to-day security operations: vulnerability management, patching, endpoint protection, email security, and incident response.
• Lead security awareness efforts and enforce Microsoft 365 and data hygiene standards.
• Own the service desk and end-user experience, with defined service levels and auditable onboarding/offboarding.
• Deliver infrastructure and operations projects on timelines with milestones and risk escalation.
• Partner with leadership on shared platforms and integrations with clear ownership boundaries.
