Job summary

ASM Research is seeking a Backup and Recovery Specialist, Mid to optimize enterprise backup and recovery services in a federal IT environment. You will design policies, storage architectures, and recovery workflows to meet continuity objectives.

You will troubleshoot complex restore scenarios across hybrid on-premises and cloud infrastructures and guide junior staff on data protection standards and reporting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in IT/CS or related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 4–7 years of data backup/recovery and storage administration experience.
• Understanding of backup/recovery for physical, virtual, and cloud workloads.
• Hands-on with NetBackup, Veeam, or Commvault in medium to large environments.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to resolve complex issues.
• Experience with monitoring tools and documenting configurations and runbooks.
• Active Secret clearance or ability to obtain; U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

• Architect and maintain backup solutions for physical, virtual, and cloud workloads with policy design.
• Analyze backup infrastructure performance and tune resources to meet RTO/RPO targets.
• Perform complex restores, including point-in-time recovery and DR exercises.
• Implement encryption, key management, and RBAC to protect data in transit and at rest.
• Document runbooks and coordinate DR drills with operations and apps teams.
• Integrate backups with monitoring/reporting solutions for dashboards and compliance.
• Troubleshoot failures and bottlenecks; drive root-cause analysis and remediation.
• Mentor junior staff on data protection standards and procedures.
