English as Second Language (ESL) Teacher

JOB TITLE: English as Second Language Teacher
REPORTS TO: School Principal
SUPERVISES: Students
DEPARTMENT: English Language Services
JOB STATUS: Full-Time (35 hours/week)
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
SALARY/BENEFITS: Refer to Teacher Collective Bargaining Agreement

Job Function

Collaborates with classroom teachers to provide English-language instructional strategies to English Language Learners (ELL) to increase proficiency. Views each student holistically, valuing academic, social, and emotional growth. Provides individualized support considering each student's needs.

This position reports directly to the school principal and functionally to other school administrators and district directors. It involves coordination with teachers, instructional coaches, psychologists, social workers, support staff, students, guardians, and the community.

Term

Works on the 10-month school calendar as defined by the Board of Education and Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Designs engaging, age-appropriate English-language instruction adhering to best practices and district curriculum guidelines.
  • Prepares and presents individual and group lessons using diverse teaching methods tailored to different learning styles.
  • Collaborates with staff to identify ELL students and supports them through targeted strategies and resource maximization.
  • Ensures students meet grade-level standards through tutoring, assessments, and grading.
  • Monitors student progress and communicates effectively with administrators, teachers, guardians, and students.
  • Establishes classroom management protocols to ensure safety and engagement.
  • Maintains necessary documentation, including student files, attendance, and incident reports.
  • Stays updated with research and best practices in ESL education.
  • Supports diversity and equity initiatives.
  • Fosters a positive school climate and celebrates student achievements.
  • Participates in faculty meetings, training, and professional development.
  • Adheres to scheduled work hours and performs additional duties as needed.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Education or related field, appropriate state license or certification, and ESL Endorsement are required. A Master's degree, additional endorsements, and prior teaching experience are preferred.

Physical Requirements

Prolonged sitting or standing, lifting up to 15 pounds, and classroom navigation. Accommodations will be provided for disabilities where feasible.
