JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: REMOTE ACCESS ROOM ASSISTANT - BILINGUAL
GRADE AND
BUDGET TITLE: CLERK V, GRADE 11
UNION: TEAMSTERS LOCAL 700
SALARY: ENTRY RATE STEP: $42,879 plus bilingual stipend
HOURS: 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. or as assigned

  • Daley Center, CL-16
  • Markham
  • Maywood
  • Rolling Meadows
  • Bridgeview
  • Skokie
  • Domestic Violence Courthouse
  • Leighton Criminal Court

Job Summary and Duties: The Remote Access Room Assistant - Bilingual is employed by the Office of the Chief Judge and reports to the Director of the Office of Accessibility and Education Outreach. The position requires a high degree of integrity and discretion, the interpersonal skills to interact cordially and professionally with litigants, judges, court staff, and the public, in Spanish and English, and the ability to contribute as a member of the Remote Access Assistance team.

The Remote Access Room Assistant - Bilingual assists self-represented speaking litigants access their remote court proceedings via computers located in court facilities throughout the circuit. Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Register litigants on daily Remote Access Room sign-in sheets
  • Communicate in Spanish and English and arrange for other foreign language interpretation as required,and provide such other technical assistance as is required, including assistance with signing in to remote courtrooms, sign-on credentials and instructions for the future remote hearings
  • Maintain the Remote Access Room, including furniture and equipment, in a neat, clean, and well-organized manner;
  • Assist litigants with signing in on their personal devices as appropriate
  • Maintain records of Remote Access Room Usage
  • Maintain ongoing communications with the judiciary and justice agencies as necessary
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned

Job Requirements:
  • Ability to communicate fluently in Spanish and English
  • High school diploma or G.E.D., Associate or Bachelor degree preferred;
  • Prior Remote Access Room experience strongly preferred
  • Record of excellent customer service preferred
  • Ability to solve problems
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent computer and telephone skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively
  • Reliability and dependability

Working conditions/physical requirements:
  • Ability to move around the Remote Access Room, courthouse, and elsewhere as required
  • Ability to intermittently twist to reach equipment and supplies
  • Ability to perform simple grasping and fine manipulation
  • Strength to lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to use a telephone and computer
