Job summary

Duke Energy is seeking an Engineering Technologist I for the Sebring/Lake Wales area. This entry-level technical support role requires an Associate Degree in Engineering Technology or a 2-year related experience with a high school diploma/GED.

The position offers hybrid mobility and field-site exposure with supervision as you build skills. Ideal candidates will have utility industry exposure, basic project management understanding, and strong written and verbal communication abilities.

This position is open to Lake Wales or Highland (Sebring) Operation Centers.

This is the first level of the non-Engineer degreed technical support role job classification. The Engineering Technologist I applies developing technical expertise to solve simple problems, and management skills to provide oversight of work in a specific area of developing expertise, with high direction and close supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop skills in their field of study, and the ability to work with some degree of independence.

Basic/Required Qualifications

• Associates degree in Engineering Technology

• In lieu of degree, a high school diploma/GED and two (2) years of experience can be considered.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in the utility industry.

• Understanding of basic principles of project management.

Working Conditions

• Some business units may require visits to field sites and/or plants

Specific Requirements

• Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

• Good written and oral communication skills.

• Either Associate Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology with no experience, or 2+ years equivalent industry experience without a degree.
