North Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking an Engineering Technician III in Division 6 Cumberland Maintenance Unit. The role involves inspecting permits, overseeing contractors, and coordinating maintenance plans while ensuring compliance with standards and procedures.

The candidate will need knowledge of NC DOT standards and the ability to work outdoors in varying conditions, with potential emergency call-backs and required certifications.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or related field; three years of progressive technician experience or equivalent.
• Experience applying engineering concepts to solve problems and to support highway projects.
• Experience communicating with citizens, contractors, and developers; ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Review and inspect driveway permits, encroachments, subdivisions, and roadway additions/abandonments.
• Monitor and inspect contractors performing work for the department.
• Manage long arm mowing contractors and snow/ice plan execution.
• Maintain guardrail and other traffic barrier systems on the state highway system.
• Coordinate utility work in the state right-of-way and enforce standards.
• Assist highway maintenance crews with technical guidance and inspections.
