Job summary

Lunar Energy is seeking an Engineering Technician II, Test Operations (Contract) in Mountain View, CA to support daily engineering operations for home energy products. You will monitor tests, inspect DUTs, run scripts, and help maintain lab inventory and cleanliness.

The role requires hands-on work, strong documentation, and the ability to read schematics. Prior experience with test harnesses and environmental chambers is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Must complete HV/LV safety training and demonstrate safe handling of electronics.
  • Experience building and using test harnesses and test rigs.
  • Comfortable running test scripts and using a terminal (Python encouraged).
  • Ability to read basic electrical schematics and diagnose anomalies.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor ongoing testing and document results with traceable records.
  • Take pre- and post-test photos and inspect DUTs for quality and function.
  • Run test scripts and swap equipment between runs; assist minor repairs.
  • Support offsite testing and maintain lab organization and cleanliness.
  • Maintain inventory and flags issues or improvement opportunities to engineers.

Job description

Engineering Technician II, Test Operations (Contract)

Engineering technicians at Lunar Energy support the day-to-day execution of engineering operations for our home energy products. We're looking for someone hands-on, detail-oriented, and curious, who wants to help build a more sustainable and energy independent future.

On a given day at Lunar, you'll likely…
  • Monitor ongoing testing
  • Take pre- and post-test photos and conduct functional inspections of DUTs, with training from test engineers
  • Run test scripts, swap equipment between runs and support minor repairs (e.g. swapping an inverter or battery blocks)
  • Support offsite testing as needed
  • Tag DUTs and maintain post-test inventory, ensuring it gets flushed out regularly
  • Keep test benches, equipment, and labels organized, take ownership of lab cleanliness and upkeep
  • Maintain inventory of common lab equipment and order/make more things as needed
  • Flag equipment issues or process improvements to the engineering team
Desired Skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong documentation habits; comfortable with teardown/inspection work and spotting anomalies
  • Strong communicator, asks questions readily and is comfortable flagging issues
  • Must be able to complete HV/LV safety training; a healthy respect (and appropriate caution) around electronics is required
  • Experience building test harnesses
  • Experience operating environmental chambers and various types of test equipment
  • Comfortable operating Python scripts/using a terminal
  • Ability to read basic electrical schematics
  • Experience with home batteries, solar, or general home electrical/electrician work

Please note that the hourly range information that follows is a good faith estimate for this position provided pursuant to the Pay Transparency for Pay Equity Act for California applicants. The hourly range estimate for this position depending on level of experience is $35-$60 USD The actual offer, reflecting the total compensation package & benefits, will be at the company's sole discretion, and determined by factors including but not limited to years of experience, job level, geographic location, and other relevant business considerations.
