Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Department of Transportation is seeking an Engineering Technician in Montgomery County to support construction inspection, measurements, and documentation for important transportation projects. You will work with project staff to ensure compliance with standards and quality outcomes.

The position offers full-time hours (7:30 AM–3:30 PM, Mon–Fri) with potential telework options.

Qualifications

• An associate degree in surveying, drafting, designing, civil, or any other appropriate field of engineering technology.
• Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Responsibilities

• Project Inspection: Participate in inspections of construction materials and workmanship to ensure compliance with standards
• Checklist Development: Create detailed checklists by researching contract items, manuals, and related standards
• Documentation Review: Record project information manually or electronically and enter daily data into required systems
• Technical Calculations: Complete measurements, estimates, sketches, and calculations to support project accuracy
• Material Monitoring: Observe placement of materials such as concrete, bituminous mixtures, and drainage components
• Team Communication: Work with staff, agencies, legislators, and the public to support effective project administration

Education
