American Crystal Sugar Company in Drayton, ND seeks an Engineering Superintendent to provide overall factory project management and engineering activities, including capital planning and next year’s projects.
The role leads all factory engineering projects, supervises external contractors, ensures projects meet company and insurance guidelines, and manages budgets, scopes, schedules, bidding, construction, and startup.
We are looking for a strategic-minded, organized individual to join our Drayton, ND factory as Engineering Superintendent. The purpose of this position is to provide effective overall factory project management and engineering activities for the factory, including special projects. This position ensures the maintenance of the 5-year capital plan, engineering for next year’s projects and oversees the current year’s engineering projects to achieve the established objectives. The principal accountabilities of this position include (but are not limited to): Lead and promote a positive work culture through Company Values of Safety, Integrity, Quality, Teamwork, and Accountability. Supervises all aspects of factory engineering projects and activities, as well as outside engineered and contracted projects. Ensure all projects are engineered to meet Company and insurance guidelines. Responsible for several million dollars of capital projects; may be required to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Participates in both short- and long-term strategic planning for factory capital projects. Responsible for implementing approved strategic plans. Manage all aspects of capital projects including scope development, budgeting, scheduling, design, bidding, construction management and startup. Applies knowledge of the technical discipline, core business, or related processing experience to select methods and resources to complete assigned capital projects. Prioritize tasks within assigned capital projects and effectively delegates within constraints of project organization. Implements standard contracts when appropriate. Independently develops project budgets and schedules, obtains information and tasks to go into schedules and works within established budgets and schedules. Identifies and participated in the development of training programs for staff utilizing completed engineering projects. Controls the activities of construction contractors at the factory site and ensures contractors work in a safe manner in compliance with regulations. Provides technical support and documentation to the Capital Buyer regarding all negotiations with construction contractors and equipment vendors. Reviews construction bid packages, provides input on bidders and final selection is determined in concert with the Capital Buyer. Develops and closely mentors engineering interns and co-op students to access individual capabilities and provide meaningful work experiences. Recommends students for hire that most closely meet Company needs. To be successful in this position requires a four-year degree in an appropriate engineering discipline with a demonstrated knowledge of the core business typically gained through a minimum of five to eight years of applied experience in a processing industry or heavy construction management. Qualified applicants must have a good understanding of the various engineering disciplines utilized throughout the factory in day-to-day activities as well as project engineering and budgeting. Must have the ability to plan and monitor projects and possess effective supervisory and communication (both written and verbal) skills. The incumbent must also be able to develop and maintain effective working relationships and ensure engineering projects are completed within established parameters. The ability to recognize, identify, communicate and recommend solutions to problems is essential.
Compensation Range: $129,324.58 - $161,655.73 Annual Salary
