Job summary

Strava is hiring an Engineering Manager for the Subscriptions team in San Francisco. This role leads backend engineers building Strava's payments and subscription platform, while still writing code and shaping architecture.

You will own the technical roadmap for payments and subscription infrastructure, partner with product and engineering leadership, and grow a high-performing team with mentorship and career development.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional backend development experience.
• 2+ years of engineering management experience or proven tech lead responsibilities.
• Proficiency in at least one backend language (Ruby, Java, Scala, Python, or Go).
• Experience with distributed systems and production infrastructure (MySQL, Redis, Kafka, Kubernetes).
• Experience with payments, billing, or subscription systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of server engineers building Strava's subscription and payments backend.
• Own the technical roadmap for payments and subscription infrastructure; align with product/engineering leadership.
• Drive platform and product work; own subscription infrastructure and user-facing products.
• Stay hands-on in the codebase; contribute designs and make architecture decisions.
• Hire, develop, and retain engineers; mentor and provide feedback.
• Own on-call, incident response, and operational quality for systems.
