Job summary

Trustly is seeking a senior engineer to lead the risk engine platform that underpins our payments decisions in North America. You will own architecture, reliability and modernization of real-time decisioning, collaborating with Data Science and Risk Product Management.

You will guide a team across time zones, translate product roadmaps into delivery plans, and ensure auditability and regression testing for secure, compliant production systems.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in backend software engineering with 4+ years managing engineers.
• Experience owning real-time, high-availability decisioning in production (fraud/risk/payments).
• Strong Java or Kotlin and distributed systems background.
• Experience with rule engines, model serving and real-time scoring.
• Track record modernizing a critical platform while it stays in service.
• Experience owning CI/CD and releases for production services, and using delivery and reliability metrics.

Responsibilities

• Define platform strategy and roadmap for the risk engine with Risk Product Management and Data Science.
• Own the architecture of the real-time decisioning platform with latency, availability, cost and auditability in mind.
• Lead modernization of the risk engine with a configuration-driven rules framework and testing controls.
• Partner with Data Science to deploy models into the risk engine.
• Translate the product roadmap into team plans with cross-functional alignment.
• Own delivery and release management including CI/CD, go/no-go decisions and rollbacks.
• Ensure reliability with SLOs, observability, on-call and blameless postmortems.
• Make risk decisions logged, versioned and reproducible for audits and inquiries.
• Hire, coach and develop engineers; spread knowledge to avoid single points of failure.
• Explain technical decisions and risks clearly to senior leaders.
