PhoenixTeam is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead engineers within our CTO office, starting with seven direct reports. You will coach, develop, hire, onboard, and retain talent while aligning staffing with client engagements and internal needs.

Reporting to the Managing Director, you will manage performance, calibrations, and compensation discussions. This role emphasizes leadership over hands-on coding and requires strong judgment in personnel matters.

Competenze

• 7+ years of experience in software engineering, DevOps, or technical delivery with direct engineering management.
• Proven success staffing engineers across multiple projects or engagements.
• Experience leading structured performance reviews and calibration against an established framework.
• Enough technical familiarity with modern software delivery and cloud environments to assess skills and staffing risks.
• Proven ability to develop engineers, navigate sensitive personnel situations, and support retention.
• Strong written communication, forecasting, and coordination with distributed teams.

Mansioni

• Directly manage an initial team of seven engineers through regular one-on-ones and development plans.
• Own performance reviews, calibration, and equitable evaluation against the engineering leveling framework.
• Partner with the Managing Director on compensation and progression decisions, ensuring clear policy-based communication.
• Build a remote-first team culture; address workload, burnout, engagement, retention, and career development risks.
• Oversee staffing plans across internal initiatives and client engagements, balancing skills, levels, and availability.
• Forecast capacity needs, hiring gaps, bench time, and key-person dependencies; surface risks early to leadership.
• Collaborate with HR and recruiting on requisitions, interviews, hiring, and onboarding; maintain consistent mentorship practices.
• Maintain accurate headcount and personnel records and report utilization, progression, and development activity.
• Improve staffing workflows and tooling while protecting confidential employee information.
