Job summary

Discord is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Notifications team in Growth. You will oversee a full-stack group (Elixir services, Python backends, pubsub pipelines) and the Kubernetes infrastructure that powers notifications for hundreds of millions of users.

You will set technical direction, partner with Product, Design, Data Science, and Marketing, and drive metrics-driven improvements in engagement and retention. A strong ownership mindset and experience growing engineers are required.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a Software Engineer building backend/infrastructure at scale.
• 2+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager.
• Experience owning production systems built on Elixir, Python, Pub/Sub, and Kubernetes with focus on reliability, throughput, and cost at scale.
• Experience collaborating with product managers, designers, data scientists, and other engineers.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of full-stack engineers building and operating the notifications platform, including Elixir services, Python backends, pubsub pipelines, and Kubernetes infrastructure.
• Set technical direction for notifications infrastructure to scale with volume and complexity.
• Partner with Product, Design, Data Science, and Marketing to define and execute the notifications roadmap.
• Use experimentation and metrics to improve notification engagement, retention, and user trust.
• Build a high-performing team through hiring, coaching, and engineering best practices.
• Collaborate with platform consumers across Discord to evolve shared primitives.
