Job summary

BlackSky is seeking an Engineering Manager for Mission Management to lead the team responsible for autonomous planning across the satellite constellation. You will provide technical direction, shape roadmaps, and partner with flight operations, software teams, and product leadership to ensure reliable, scalable mission capabilities.

The role emphasizes building robust processes, managing priorities, and developing engineers while delivering high-quality software for live constellation needs.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in software engineering, including complex distributed or mission-critical systems.
• At least 2+ years leading engineering teams with formal leadership responsibilities.
• Strong programming skills with Go, Python, or C++.

Responsibilities

• Lead Mission Management engineering team for autonomous satellite operations planning.
• Drive prioritization and planning across projects to align with business goals and mission operations.
• Provide technical direction and architectural guidance for constellation activities.
• Establish and improve engineering processes: code reviews, testing, design reviews, safety considerations.
• Foster on-call culture and support live systems, incident response, and root-cause analysis.
• Hire, onboard, coach, and evaluate engineers; support career development.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including flight ops, product, and program leadership.
