Job summary

BlackSky is seeking a Ground & Control Services Engineering Manager in Seattle, WA (Remote eligible) to lead a team building autonomous satellite operations software. You will guide architects, manage roadmaps, and ensure high‑quality, reliable ground-to-space communications across live constellation needs.

You will mentor engineers, coordinate across mission operations, product, and leadership to balance reliability with rapid iteration, and foster a culture of ownership and collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Eight+ years of professional software engineering experience, including distributed, autonomous, or mission-critical systems.
• At least two years leading engineering teams with formal leadership responsibilities.
• Strong programming skills in Go, Python, or C++, with ability to guide architecture.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow the Ground & Control Services engineering team for autonomous satellite operations and real-time tasking.
• Drive prioritization and planning across GCS projects to align with business goals and mission operations.
• Provide technical direction for ground stations interfaces, satellite communication protocols, and operational workflows.
• Establish and improve design reviews, testing practices, and incident response.
