Job summary

BlackSky is seeking an experienced Mission Management, Software Engineering Manager to lead the engineering team responsible for autonomous satellite operations planning. You will architect and guide cross-functional teams, drive roadmaps, and ensure reliable, scalable systems in a fast-paced environment.

The role emphasizes people mentorship, technical leadership, and collaboration across flight ops, software, and product to align with business objectives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in a computational field.
• 8+ years software engineering experience, including distributed/autonomous systems.
• 2+ years leading engineering teams.
• Strong background in Go, Python, or C++, with architectural guidance.
• Experience deploying microservices in cloud environments (AWS/GCP/Azure) and on-prem Kubernetes.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Mission Management engineering team for autonomous satellite operations planning.
• Drive prioritization and planning aligned with business goals and customer commitments.
• Collaborate with flight ops, flight software, ground software, mission planning, systems engineering, product, and program leadership.
• Provide technical direction and architectural guidance for constellation activities.
• Improve engineering processes: design reviews, code reviews, testing, safety, and operational readiness.
• Foster on-call culture and manage incident response and root cause analyses.
• Oversee roadmap, resource allocation, and execution across projects.
• Hire, onboard, coach, and evaluate engineers; emphasize growth and accountability.
