Job summary
Canonical is hiring an Engineering Manager for Distributed Systems Testing to lead a team delivering high-quality testing infrastructure and automation for cloud-native distributed systems. The role emphasizes technical leadership and people management across a globally distributed team.
You will shape engineering practices, review patches, and guide test architecture while ensuring delivery across diverse environments and time zones.
Qualifications
- Academic excellence at high school and university
- Proven leadership of software engineers
- Proficiency in Python or Go and distributed systems
- Strong testing processes and automation expertise
- Experience with Linux environments (Ubuntu preferred)
- Ability to participate in code reviews and design discussions
- Experience in agile development and team organization
- Excellent written and spoken English skills
- Willingness to travel for company events (up to two weeks, twice a year)
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a high-performing software and QA team
- Define engineering strategy, architecture, and roadmap for testing platforms
- Improve CI/CD pipelines and testing infrastructure
- Collaborate with senior engineers to set technical direction
- Oversee testing across bare-metal, private, and public cloud environments
- Contribute to code reviews and hands-on engineering when needed
- Represent the team to stakeholders and coordinate with Canonical teams
