Job summary

Checkr is building the data platform to power safe and fair decisions. As Engineering Manager for the Mortgage Verifications team, you’ll lead a team of ~8 engineers building this platform end-to-end—from the APIs and Integrations core to the AI/ML models that power verification decisions to the customer-facing product experience.

You’ll report into Mortgage engineering leadership with direct visibility to the executive leadership team, partnering with product to shape what ships next.

Qualifications

• 4+ years as an engineering manager with 8+ years as an engineer.
• Track record of rolling out AI adoption with guardrails and measurable baselines.
• Quantitative fluency in translating metrics into business impact.
• Co-owning product direction and shaping problems with Product.
• Experience managing incidents in production at scale, with clear communication.
• Experience in regulated, high-stakes products (fintech/healthcare/identity).
• Strong system design, architecture judgment, and prioritization under uncertainty.
• Proven ability to grow engineers and build inclusive teams.

Responsibilities

• Own delivery and technical direction for the Mortgage Verifications team through its next launch phases.
• Drive team-level AI adoption with guardrails and measurable impact.
• Co-own product direction with PM; shape problems beyond handed-off specs.
• Lead platform modernization while delivering features in a regulated domain.
• Manage production incidents as technical and communications lead.
