Job description

Our client is an established engineering, construction management, and design-build organization delivering complex building infrastructure, MEP, energy efficiency, and modernization projects across healthcare, higher education, institutional, commercial, and public-sector environments.

They are seeking an experienced Engineering Leader to lead a multidisciplinary engineering team while providing technical leadership, project oversight, resource planning, and senior-level client leadership across complex MEP, energy, and infrastructure projects.

Working directly with the President and senior leadership, this individual will play an important role in connecting engineering with construction and overall project delivery while helping shape the continued development of the engineering organization.

This is a significant leadership opportunity for an accomplished engineering professional who wants to move beyond traditional department management and build toward broader organizational leadership over time.

Overview

The Engineering Manager will lead an established team of engineering professionals supporting technically complex projects involving electrical and mechanical infrastructure, HVAC systems, central plants, building controls, electrification, lighting, energy efficiency, decarbonization, and multidisciplinary MEP systems.

This individual will oversee engineering quality, staffing, budgets, schedules, technical decision-making, team development, and project execution while working closely with construction management, project leadership, clients, and company executives.

The successful candidate does not need to personally perform every aspect of engineering production. The organization is looking for a leader who can provide technical credibility and direction while maintaining a broader view of project delivery, people, clients, and the business.

Candidates may come from either an Electrical or Mechanical Engineering background, with multidisciplinary MEP/building systems experience strongly valued.

What You'll Lead
  • Lead, mentor, and further develop a multidisciplinary engineering team.
  • Provide leadership across electrical, mechanical, MEP, energy, and building infrastructure projects.
  • Oversee engineering quality, project priorities, staffing, resource allocation, budgets, schedules, and deliverables.
  • Provide technical direction across building electrical systems, HVAC, central plants, BAS/BMS, controls, electrification, lighting, energy efficiency, and infrastructure modernization.
  • Participate in project planning, design reviews, constructability discussions, estimating, technical decision-making, and risk mitigation.
  • Work closely with construction management and project leadership to ensure engineering solutions support successful project execution.
  • Serve as a senior technical and client-facing resource on complex projects and key accounts.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Develop engineering standards, processes, and best practices that support quality and efficient project delivery.
  • Support recruiting, mentoring, retention, and professional development across the engineering organization.
  • Work directly with the President and senior leadership on engineering strategy, organizational development, and future growth.
  • Help strengthen the integration of engineering, construction, and project delivery across the organization.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Significant progressive experience within MEP engineering, building systems, energy, design-build, or related engineering environments.
  • Proven experience leading engineers, technical teams, projects, or engineering functions.
  • Strong understanding of multidisciplinary building systems, including electrical and mechanical infrastructure.
  • Experience with complex commercial, healthcare, higher education, institutional, or public-sector facilities.
  • Experience working within design-build, construction management, or integrated engineering/construction environments strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee project budgets, schedules, staffing, resources, technical quality, and risk.
  • Strong client-facing communication and relationship management skills.
  • Ability to provide credible technical leadership without needing to personally perform all engineering production.
  • Experience with healthcare and/or higher education facilities is highly valued.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration is highly preferred. Exceptional candidates with appropriate technical and leadership experience may also be considered.
Location
  • Position is based in the Capital Region of New York.
  • This is primarily an office-based leadership position with regular interaction across engineering, project management, construction, and senior leadership.
  • Periodic travel may be required for client meetings, project sites, and other company locations.
  • Relocation assistance may be available for the right candidate.
Why This Opportunity
  • Lead an established multidisciplinary engineering organization.
  • Work directly with the President and senior company leadership.
  • Influence engineering strategy, project delivery, team development, and organizational growth.
  • Work across engineering, construction management, and design-build project delivery rather than operating within an isolated engineering function.
  • Take on a highly visible leadership role with meaningful client and business exposure.
  • Build toward broader organizational and executive leadership as credibility and responsibility grow within the company.
