Position:

Raymond is seeking an experienced Director of MEP to provide strategic, technical, and operational leadership for the firm's Mechanical and Electrical Engineering disciplines. This position will oversee engineering personnel, manage departmental workloads and resources, support project delivery, and help develop the structure and organizational growth of the MEP departments.

The Director of MEP will work closely with project managers, company leadership, clients, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in accordance with Raymond's quality standards. This role will also support employee development, business development, client relationships, technical standards, and the continued growth of the MEP disciplines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for Raymond's Mechanical and Electrical Engineering disciplines.
  • Develop and implement departmental plans that align with company goals and objectives.
  • Assess current project workloads and forecast future staffing needs based on active projects, submitted proposals, RFPs, and upcoming business development opportunities.
  • Manage personnel utilization and assign engineering staff to projects based on workload, project requirements, and employee capabilities.
  • Monitor project progress and adjust staffing resources as necessary to meet client goals and submission deadlines.
  • Identify hiring needs and participate in hiring decisions and recommendations to company leadership.
  • Lead, develop, and mentor MEP engineering personnel while providing career development opportunities and performance feedback.
  • Develop and maintain training programs to support consistent project delivery, technical growth, and professional development.
  • Provide team members with the tools, software, mentorship, codes, standards, and other resources necessary to perform their work effectively.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of engineering standards, production processes, and new technologies.
  • Assign and oversee a REVIT/BIM/AutoCAD representative to maintain department templates, libraries, and project setups.
  • Assist with project planning, preliminary design, research, and coordination with project managers.
  • Review drawings, specifications, calculations, reports, estimates, and other engineering deliverables prepared by others.
  • Perform senior-level engineering work as needed to support project delivery.
  • Conduct technical quality and constructability reviews to ensure work meets industry standards and client expectations.
  • Support fieldwork and review field reports as needed.Ensure departmental work is completed within established budgets, schedules, and project scopes.
  • Proactively identify project and staffing risks and communicate concerns to project managers, supervisors, and company leadership.
  • Prepare and review project estimates, fees, proposals, scopes of work, and technical clarifications.
  • Work with project managers to develop scopes of work, schedules, and pricing for proposals.
  • Support business development, marketing, client acquisition, and client retention efforts.
  • Participate in client presentations, engineering presentations, project meetings, and business development activities.
  • Maintain strong communication with company leadership, project managers, engineers, HR, and other company stakeholders.
  • Provide management with regular updates on departmental utilization, workload, profitability, performance, and growth.
  • Maintain current knowledge of engineering principles, industry trends, applicable codes and standards, and relevant software.
  • Support quality management systems and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Ensure continuing education and professional development requirements are maintained for department personnel.
  • Manage departmental administrative responsibilities, including time sheets, expense reports, internal management tasks, and administrative approvals.
  • Work with Human Resources to address personnel and employee relations matters.
  • Sign and seal engineering work products as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET/EAC-accredited four-year engineering program, or an equivalent non-American four-year engineering degree subject to review.
  • 15+ years of experience with an ABET/EAC-accredited bachelor's degree and two-year master's degree in Mechanical Engineering; 16+ years of experience with an ABET/EAC-accredited bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering; or 22+ years of experience with a non-American four-year engineering degree, including at least 4 years of experience in the United States.
  • Extensive experience with Mechanical Engineering and Plumbing for architectural building projects, including HVAC, controls, plumbing, and related systems, or Electrical Engineering projects involving power, lighting, data, lighting protection, arc-flash, and related systems.
  • Proven success managing large engineering projects and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, REVIT, Trane TRACE, specification writing, and construction observation. Experience with applicable electrical design and analysis software is also beneficial.
  • Strong understanding of technical codes and standards applicable to mechanical and/or electrical engineering.
  • Familiarity with federal UFC, DoD, and VA criteria is preferred.
  • Demonstrated managerial and leadership experience with engineering teams.
  • Experience managing team workloads, project budgets, schedules, and personnel utilization.
  • Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with clients, agencies, architects, engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders.
  • Experience making engineering, project, and business development presentations.
  • Proven ability to develop new clients and collaborate with business development teams.
  • Strong ability to train, coach, and develop both less experienced and seasoned engineering professionals.
  • Passed the FE and PE examinations administered by NCEES.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in the United States and an active, up-to-date NCEES record.
  • Ability to travel approximately 20% for client or company meetings.
  • Commitment to continued professional development in communication, management, leadership, and business.
