Due to continued growth within the mission-critical sector, my client is seeking an experienced MEP Director to support the planning, design, preconstruction, procurement, and execution of large-scale data center projects across key U.S. markets.

This individual will serve as a senior MEP leader and subject-matter expert, partnering with project executives, project management teams, design professionals, consultants, trade partners, suppliers, and customers. The MEP Director will be responsible for translating the organization’s broader MEP strategy into project-specific execution plans while ensuring that mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire-protection, controls, and supporting utility systems are effectively coordinated throughout the project lifecycle.

My client operates as a fully integrated design-build contractor, delivering end-to-end solutions across construction, professional services, design and engineering coordination, specialty equipment, procurement, and real estate. This integrated delivery model enables the business to support customers from early conceptual planning and preconstruction through design development, procurement, construction, commissioning support, turnover, and final closeout.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide senior-level leadership for the MEP planning and execution of large-scale data center projects from preconstruction and design development through procurement, construction, commissioning support, turnover, and closeout.
• Partner with project executives and project management teams to understand each customer’s operational requirements, technical standards, schedule objectives, commercial priorities, and overall project expectations.
• Serve as the primary MEP point of contact for project management teams, customers, design partners, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, vendors, and internal operational stakeholders.
• Provide tactical oversight of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire-protection, controls, utility, and other mission-critical building systems throughout project execution.
• Lead or support comprehensive MEP preconstruction strategies for small, medium, and large projects, including assignments with total values exceeding $200 million.
• Support the evaluation and procurement of major MEP equipment, materials, subcontracts, and services, including long-lead electrical and mechanical systems required for mission-critical construction.
• Mentor and train project management professionals in MEP systems, coordination, procurement, commercial management, risk mitigation, and project execution.

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible MEP construction, design management, preconstruction, or project leadership experience.
• Proven experience managing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire-protection, controls, utility, and supporting infrastructure scopes on design-build or competitively bid projects.
• Strong preference for experience delivering data centers, mission-critical facilities, advanced technology facilities, large-scale manufacturing plants, or similarly complex technical projects.
• Exceptional leadership, mentoring, relationship management, communication, and cross-functional coordination capabilities.
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Building Systems, or a related discipline preferred. An equivalent combination of education, technical training, and relevant experience will also be considered.
• Willingness to travel based on project assignments, customer requirements, and operational needs.
• Ability to build productive relationships with customers, project teams, designers, engineers, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, manufacturers, and community stakeholders.

Leadership Responsibilities

• Provide functional leadership to project management teams and MEP stakeholders across departmental and organizational lines.
• Direct and influence internal team members, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and external project participants without relying exclusively on direct reporting relationships.
• Support the development of project engineers, assistant project managers, project managers, MEP professionals, and other team members through coaching, technical guidance, and practical project exposure.
• Promote consistency in MEP planning, communication, risk management, documentation, procurement, construction execution, and customer service across multiple projects.
