Job summary

Toast is seeking an Engineering Lead for its New Ventures team to build one of Toast’s newest products from 0 to 1. You will lead a small team of senior engineers, write code, fix issues, and work directly with customers to ensure fast, valuable delivery.

You’ll partner with Product Leads to define weekly priorities and advance the product architecture while maintaining high quality. You will be deeply embedded in product discovery, leveraging AI tools where appropriate and shaping engineering

Qualifications

• Proven 0-to-1 experience taking a product from concept to MVP and beyond.
• Strong player/coach mentality with the depth to review designs and code.
• Experience leading small, high-leverage engineering teams in lean environments.
• Deep customer empathy and willingness to fix bugs based on direct feedback.
• Experience building teams/products with modern tools to ship faster and smarter.
• Defined shared engineering norms and guardrails for speed with quality.
• Collaborated with Product Leads to define weekly priorities.
• Self-directed, low ego, comfortable in ambiguity.
• Experience building or shipping AI-powered product experiences.

Responsibilities

• Lead and unblock a small, senior-engineering team while fostering rapid iteration.
• Write code, fix bugs, and triage customer issues to maintain fast feedback loops.
• Partner with Product Lead to decide weekly scope and tradeoffs.
• Introduce modern tools and processes to improve daily development workflows.
• Establish norms and guardrails to balance speed and quality.
• Coordinate with other engineering and platform groups on cross-team dependencies.
• Stay close to customers and translate feedback into engineering impact.
• Shape the technical strategy and architecture for a 0→1 product.
