Job summary

ERCOT seeks a senior planning lead to manage the Large Load Batch studies, identifying transmission projects to meet near- and long-term reliability needs. You will mentor engineers, coordinate across ERCOT departments, and present findings to stakeholders and regulators.

The role requires a minimum of five years in system planning, a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, and preferred PE. Prior experience with Python-based simulation tools and transmission planning processes is a plus.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years experience in system planning.
• Experience supervising or leading a team or project preferred.
• Experience programming and developing simulation automation tools (Python).
• Experience assisting in the development of improvements to transmission planning processes and familiarity with NERC reliability standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team that develops and coordinates ERCOT Large Load Batch planning studies and identifies transmission projects to address near- and long-term reliability needs.
• Structure planning studies and sensitivity analyses to determine improvements, including technical and financial analyses.
• Serve as the recognized technical expert for the department within and outside the organization.
• Provide on-the-job training, mentoring, or oversight of engineers/analysts as required.
• Collaborate with other ERCOT departments to implement system changes as needed.
• Communicate results to stakeholders and management, ensuring compliance with applicable requirements.
• Examine and identify efficiency improvements for departmental processes.
• Represent the department on cross-functional teams, providing technical, business, and policy guidance.
• Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders in the electric utility industry.
• Lead project work and audits; prepare reports/presentations for stakeholder bodies and regulatory agencies.
