Job summary

Texas Department of Transportation seeks an Intern Engineering Support in the Houston area to gain hands-on experience across roadway, pavement, drainage and bridge design, plus traffic systems and asset management. The role supports field inspections, data collection and laboratory tasks while you pursue an undergraduate engineering degree.

Part-time, year-round positions available at multiple Houston-area locations; some travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in an accredited engineering or related science degree program.
• Open to undergraduates pursuing an engineering degree.
• Must be at least 16 years of age; some duties require 18+ with a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Assist in transportation engineering support work including construction or maintenance inspection and data collection.
• Develop spreadsheets, databases, and electronic documents for project records.
• Gather basic data and perform routine statistical analyses under supervision.
• Inspect construction methods and materials to ensure compliance with plans and specs.
• Assist with laboratory tests and data entry for project documentation.
• Support survey work and traffic counts as needed.
