Job summary

American Electric Power invites engineering students to join a 10–12 week paid internship in Columbus, Ohio. Interns work on real projects, learn from industry leaders, and receive mentorship while contributing to ongoing initiatives.

Housing stipend of 1,500 per month is provided for those relocating. Eligible majors include Electrical, Civil, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering; graduation date December 2027 or later; and non-sponsorship. Onsite opportunities in Columbus, New Albany, or Gahanna.

Qualifications

• Pursuing ABET-accredited engineering degree.
• Freshman year completed.
• Graduation date December 2027 or later.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Not eligible for sponsorship, OPT, or CPT.
• Willingness to relocate for the summer internship locations.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with project teams and engineers on planning, design and execution of enterprise projects.
• Engage in design reviews, training sessions, knowledge-building projects and constructability assessments.
• Participate in field visits to understand power system operations and assist in inspections and tests.
• Assist in developing and analyzing databases, reports, cost estimates and dashboards.
• Support documentation for decision-making and safety initiatives.
• Embrace safety guidelines and expand engineering skills through new challenges.
