Job summary

American Electric Power invites an Electrical Engineering intern for Summer 2027 in Columbus, OH and nearby areas. You will learn from seasoned engineers, engage in hands-on projects, and receive mentorship while contributing to real enterprise initiatives.

You will participate in design reviews, field visits, and data analytics tasks, gaining practical experience in power systems, safety practices, and project execution.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited).
• Must have completed freshman year.
• Graduation date of December 2027 or later.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Not eligible for sponsorship, OPT, or CPT.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with engineers on planning, designing and executing projects from design to construction.
• Participate in design reviews and safety/operational standard trainings.
• Visit field facilities to observe power system operations and assist inspections/tests.
• Develop and analyze databases, reports, cost estimates and dashboards for decision making.
• Support documentation for initiatives aimed at improving performance and safety.
