Job summary

Martin Marietta's Salisbury Shop Engineering Internship invites students pursuing a bachelor’s in Mechanical or Civil Engineering to gain hands-on experience across design, fabrication, machining, and repair within our crusher repair facility.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the intern will work with engineers, machinists, fabricators, and welders to apply classroom knowledge to real projects, developing technical, analytical, and project-management skills.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience with SolidWorks or Autodesk Advance Steel required.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn in a manufacturing and engineering environment.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work in both office and shop environments.
• Ability to wear required PPE while in operational areas.

Responsibilities

• Follow and promote safety, environmental, and ethical standards in all activities.
• Actively participate in safety initiatives and support a culture of safety excellence.
• Assist engineering personnel with design, detailing, fabrication oversight, testing oversight, and project execution.
• Support engineering projects through design development and final delivery.
• Gain hands-on experience using precision measuring equipment (micrometers, calipers, vision systems).
• Assist with engineering drawings and detailing using SolidWorks, Autodesk Advance Steel, and AutoCAD.
• Observe and support CNC machining and cutting processes in the manufacturing environment.
• Collaborate with engineering, fabrication, machining and maintenance teams to meet objectives.
• Demonstrate initiative, professionalism, and a strong work ethic in solo and team settings.
