The City of Durham's Planning & Development Department is hiring a utility and road construction inspector. The role performs on‑site inspections, reviews construction plans, tests water and sewer lines, and verifies Right‑of‑Way permits to ensure all requirements are met and codes are followed.
Duties include private development inspections, overseeing contracts, Right‑of‑Way inspection programs, driveway evaluations, and street acceptance.

Hiring Range: $50,732 - $78,713
Work Schedule: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
The purpose of this position is to assure all utility and road construction adheres to the codes and specifications set forth by the City. This is accomplished by performing on site inspections and utilizing test equipment, plans, and permits to ensure all requirements are met. Other duties include reviewing newly submitted construction plans, verifying Right‑of‑Way utility permits, testing water and sewer lines, verifying project grade’s Right‑of‑way inspection assignments, and enforcing water regulations.
