Job summary

The City of Lexington is seeking a Utilities Engineer to perform advanced engineering work for water and wastewater systems, including planning, design review, capital project delivery, construction administration, regulatory coordination, and technical review of public utility infrastructure.

This position serves as the City’s in-house engineering resource for assigned utility projects and works closely with City departments, consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, environmental, or related engineering field from an accredited program.
  • Possession of EIT or ability to obtain within six months.
  • Two years of relevant engineering experience involving civil infrastructure, water, wastewater, utilities, or related public infrastructure work.

  • Plan, design review, and capital project delivery for water/wastewater systems.
  • Conduct construction administration and regulatory coordination for utility projects.

TheUtilities Engineer performs advanced engineering work for theWater/Wastewater utility systems, including planning, design review, capital project delivery, construction administration, regulatory coordination, and technical review of public utility infrastructure. This position serves as the City’s in-house engineering resource for assigned utility projects and works closely with City departments, consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, biological/agricultural engineering, or a closely related engineering field from an accredited program.
  • Possession of Engineer in Training (EIT) or ability to obtain it within six (6) months.
  • Two years of relevant engineering experience involving civil infrastructure, water, wastewater, utilities, development review, construction administration, capital project delivery, or similar public infrastructure work.
  • Experience coordinating consultants, contractors, developers, regulatory agencies, or internal technical teams.
  • Valid NC driver’s license or valid out-of-state driver’s license with the ability to obtain a valid NC driver’s license within sixty days of employment and good driving record

Work Schedule

Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm. Paid bi-weekly.
Must be able to attend meetings as required
