Job summary

University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks a Grants Administrator-SOE to provide pre and post award grants support and operational management of same in the School of Engineering. Primary interface to investigators and university offices for research administration; ensure timely submission of proposals and post award support.

Role includes overseeing effort reporting, maintaining procedures, onboarding staff, and providing training.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field and seven (7) years of related experience required.
• Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manages research grants administration for the School of Engineering and serves as lead contact for faculty and offices.
• Prepares, refines, and submits sponsored research proposals to the Office of Sponsored Programs; develops budgets and justifications.
• Reviews draft grant components, completes required forms, obtains internal approvals, and ensures timely submission to sponsors.
• Manages post-award activities across grants and contracts; allocates costs, processes amendments, and prepares sponsor invoices.
• Ensures performance of responsibilities in compliance with laws, regulations, and UAB policies; delivers efficient services and high satisfaction.
• Serves as Department Effort Officer (DEO) and oversees effort reporting certification; provides training.
• Participates in research administration committees and meetings.
• Provides onboarding and ongoing training; updates procedures and prepares activity reports.
• Interviews, hires, trains, and evaluates direct reports.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
