Job summary

The University of Alabama at Birmingham seeks a Grants & Contracts Officer to guide pre-award and non-financial post-award work for complex research grants and contracts. You will represent UAB in negotiations with sponsors and assist faculty on contractual matters related to sponsored research.

Responsibilities include reviewing proposals, advising on compliance, negotiating terms, budgeting, and mentoring staff in the Office of Sponsored Programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Public Administration, Science, or related field.
• Five years of related experience required.
• Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Responsibilities

• Act as university representative for extramural grants and contracts administration and review complex proposals/awards.
• Provide technical expertise, information, training, and problem resolution for grant/contract-related activities.
• Advise faculty on grant administration and compliance with policies, budget preparation, and presentations.
• Review, prepare, negotiate, and monitor grant/contract modifications and amendments, rebudgeting, and subcontracts.
• Act as university representative to sponsors and mentors internal/external customers.
• Provide training and assistance to staff, campus liaison, and other department personnel.
• For Federal/nonprofit area, review grant applications and provide timely advice ensuring compliance.
• Review, validate, and negotiate federal/non-profit research awards and budgets.
• Create and process data use agreements for sponsors and negotiate terms.
