Summary:
Open to the first 250 applicants or until 12/27/2024, whichever comes first. All applications submitted by 11:59 (EST) on the closing day will receive consideration.
The typical seasonal period is April through June but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: April 2025.
Responsibilities:
Physical Demands: Heavy physical effort is required in constantly reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to handle different sets of controls to operate the equipment and attachments. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating over rough surfaces. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds and often puts forth similar effort when pushing, pulling, turning, and positioning parts, assemblies, equipment, and tools.
Working Conditions: Work is performed both inside and outside, with the majority being outside. Workers are frequently exposed to inclement weather, including rain, mud, snow, and extreme temperatures. There is also exposure to dust, fumes, oils, solvents, and cold dampness. Workers may receive cuts, abrasions, bruises, and strains while servicing and operating equipment. Summer conditions may include noise and potential hazards from poisonous plants, insects, wild animals, and snakes. Safety practices and equipment, such as protective hearing devices and hard hats, must be followed.
Air Quality: Poor air quality affects Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, especially during summer months (generally May to October). High ozone levels may be the most harmful pollutant here, with concentrations often exceeding federal ozone health standards. For more information, visit Air Quality Information.
