Job summary

FirstEnergy Corp. is seeking Engineering Co-Op students for Spring 2027 across its Power Delivery and Construction & Design Services groups.

Positions are on-site with a five-state footprint including Akron, OH, Greensburg PA, Reading PA, Fairmont WV, and Morristown NJ. Candidates must be pursuing an ABET‑accredited engineering degree or Engineering Technology and be prepared for full-time, internship-style work during normal business hours.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in a four-year accredited college/university in Electrical, Civil, Mechanical Engineering, or Engineering Technology
• Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better
• Must have the ability to work without sponsorship (now or in the future)
• Ability to commit to a minimum of two CO-OP rotations preferred
• Must be willing to relocate to/reside near reporting location for the duration of the assignment
• Ability to reliably report to assigned work location as necessary
• Minimum of sophomore, junior, senior or graduate level class standing strongly preferred
• Successful completion of basic engineering coursework
• Must be able to work in both an office and field environment with safety procedures
• Experience with Microsoft Office and CAD program applications a plus
• Positive communication skills and organizational abilities to prioritize and meet deadlines
• Ability to work independently or in a team environment with minimal supervision
• Ability to use analytical skills to resolve problems and think creatively

Responsibilities

• Support FirstEnergy engineers in developing or maintaining engineering programs, including revising and developing procedures, completing analytics, updating applications, performing field walk downs, and verifying inputs to the programs
• Assist FirstEnergy engineers in performing engineering studies, analysis, and/or design in support of transmission engineering planning, protection, design, operations, and/or maintenance of the transmission system
• Support development of system equipment models, protection specifications and investigation of transmission system relay events
• Assist in developing transmission line and substation design packages
• Support continued maintenance of the substation's current maintenance strategy and investigate reliability/performance issues
• Develop and write summary reports and PowerPoint presentations to document analyses and recommendations
• Work with Project Managers to implement projects in the transmission capital portfolio
• Provide analytical and technical support to the engineers developing the 5-year capital project portfolio
• Fully participate in the Co-Op/Intern program events
• Engage to understand the electric utility business and explore career paths at FirstEnergy
• Network with students and mentors and present at rotations
