Job summary
Texas Department of Transportation’s Waco District offers an Engineering Assistant Program designed to build skills in construction, roadway design and maintenance while pursuing FE/PE licensure. Participants rotate through design, construction and operations, work with mentors, and gain hands-on experience on real projects serving the traveling public.
The program provides training for FE and PE exams, supportive career development, and a comprehensive benefits package, with flexible schedules
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related science required.
- Mandatory TX Engineer In Training certificate for Engineering Assistant II/III.
- Valid driver's license to drive a state vehicle.
- Degree requirements may be substituted per policy (MS/PhD accepted).
- Ability to pursue PE licensure through training and exams.
Responsibilities
- Actively prepares for professional engineering licensing/registration through training and exams.
- Applies engineering principles to transportation-related activities.
- Assists in survey activities and data collection at project sites.
- Creates detailed PS&E and develops drawings to support public involvement.
- Reviews plans and uses CAD/design systems.
