Job summary

The Amarillo District of Texas Department of Transportation is seeking an Engineering Assistant I or II to support design, construction, inspection, maintenance, surveying and transportation operations while pursuing professional licensure.

This role includes job rotation, training, continuing education, and supervision by licensed engineers. A pre-employment physical and drug testing may apply, with a recruitment bonus up to $5,000 for external hires.

Qualifications

• Aspires to professional engineering licensure through training and exams.
• Participation in the Engineering Assistant Career Development Program (EACDP).
• Experience supporting design, construction inspection, and transportation tasks.
• Valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

• Actively prepares for professional licensure through training and exams.
• Participates in the EA Career Development Program with rotation and training.
• Performs construction inspection and material sampling/testing.
• Performs design computations and plan preparations for construction projects.
• Performs PS&E-related engineering calculations.
• Works on transportation engineering tasks in the field.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Engineering Assistant II: advanced design work, detailed PS&E, and public-involvement drawings.
