Job summary
Southern Methodist University seeks a Director of Manufacturing & Research Shop Operations to provide strategic leadership across all fabrication facilities in the Lyle School of Engineering. Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or related field required.
- Minimum 7 years of progressive industrial/academic experience.
- Minimum 5 years in management or supervisory roles in advanced machine shop or manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead modernization, maintenance, and upgrade of all instructional and research fabrication labs.
- Procure, install, and integrate advanced manufacturing equipment (CNC, additive manufacturing, laser systems).
- Serve as primary engineering consultant to faculty, post-docs, and graduate students for design, fabrication, and testing of research apparatus.
- Develop and enforce comprehensive safety protocols across all shop spaces.
