Job summary

David Evans and Associates, Inc. (DEA) is seeking an Engineer-in-Training to join our Inland Northwest Roads and Highways team across Tri-Cities, Spokane, Coeur d’Alene, Pocatello, or Boise.

This role offers hands-on experience in roadway design, design calculations, and construction support for projects in Idaho and Eastern Washington. You will work with mentors, take on increasing responsibility, and develop skills in OpenRoads Designer, Civil 3D, and multidisciplinary coordination while

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
• 0-3 years of Civil Engineering experience.
• Exposure to OpenRoads Designer and/or Civil 3D through professional experience, internships, or academic coursework.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical information clearly.
• Ability to work collaboratively, manage assigned tasks, and meet established deadlines.
• Willingness to learn, accept feedback, and take on increasing responsibility.

Responsibilities

• Support the planning and design of roadway, highway, intersection, and other transportation improvement projects.
• Prepare design calculations, exhibits, plan sheets, details, quantities, and cost estimates under the guidance of experienced engineers.
• Develop and revise engineering plans using OpenRoads Designer and/or Civil 3D.
• Review maps, survey information, reports, record drawings, test results, and other technical information needed for design.
• Assist with the preparation of construction documents, technical reports, specifications, and supporting project documentation.
• Coordinate with roadway, structural, drainage, traffic, environmental, survey, and other technical disciplines on multidisciplinary projects.
• Assist with utility conflict identification and coordination with public agencies and private utility providers.
• Support project organization, document control, and quality‑control reviews.
• Assist with construction‑phase services, including responses to contractor RFIs, submittal reviews, preparation of record drawings, and field observations.
• Perform construction inspection when needed for specific projects.
• Participate in project meetings, site visits, and coordination with clients and agency staff.
• Develop your technical capabilities through mentorship, training, and progressively more complex assignments.
